There's always something exciting about redecorating your home. Not only do you end up with a fresh new look in your home, but you also get to shop for all those little details that will give you the look you're aiming for. Unfortunately, redecorating your home can also be a big hassle, especially when you fail to plan properly. When that happens, you could end up with a house that's not finished, and a budget that's been blown all out of proportion. Be Realistic About Your Design Budget

When you're ready to get down to work on your redecorating project, sit down with your design team, and create a realistic budget. List all the money that you have coming into the home, as well as all the expenses you have going out each month. However, don't stop there. Add all the things that could become expenditures during the project, including car maintenance issues that might be looming, and property taxes that might come due before the project is complete. When it comes to additional income potential, avoid adding income that might not come through on time, such as anticipated bonus checks. Adding income lines that you don't actually have yet, could leave you with a budget problem later. Once you've listed everything, you and your design team will be able to create a realistic budget to work with.

Make a List in Order of Priority

After you have your budget in place, you'll need to make a list of everything you want to include in your redecorating project. Don't just list them in a haphazard fashion though. Make your list in order of priority. Once you have a prioritized list, you can see where you have room to add some of the extra's you'd like to include. One thing to remember is that you should prioritize your extras too. That way, you include the extras that you really didn't want to live without, versus paying for the ones that you could have done without.

Create a Detailed Layout for Your Plans

Once you have your budget in place, and your lists prioritized, sit down with your design team to create a detailed layout of your plans. This will allow you to see where all your details will fit in. Knowing the details for each room you'll be working on will allow you to see where your budget could be better spent. It will also provide you the opportunity to streamline in one area, to increase the budget in another.
